LEARN & GROW
CREATING A CREATIVE COMMUNITY
the Community Arts & Heritage Education Project Presents What Hooks You Here!
“What Hooks you Here?” we all develop a sense of place, a reason why we live in here. With the input of local artists, poets, writers, children and community members, the local Community Arts and Heritage Project will create a community art piece based on your ideas.
Process
-Writing, drawing, painting, Share your ideas and contribute to the final designs.
-Community Celebration. Sharing art work, writing, and revealing the finished rug hookings.
Collaborating on creating the final piece.
Rug Hooking has evolved and so have dying methods. With narrower cutter heads and the ability to dye wool, almost anything can be portrayed in wool. The simple act of pulling up loops can be done by anyone. The subject matter is limitless. The artwork would be put onto a backing, the wool dyed and some instructions would be given to the various groups who volunteer to hook on the project.
Debbie Ballard and Judy Kielczewski spearhead the project and provide instruction to everyone who wants to hook on the project. Both are currently enrolled in the OHCG teachers training program. Debbie has been hooking for 30 years and Judy has been hooking for 6 years. They both are active in a small hooking group in Fort Frances. It is estimated that this project would take up to one year to complete.
Drawing is a tool to help solve problems, create new ideas and assist in communication. Drawing leads to discoveries; it stimulates the imagination and thinking. Using a loose, experimental attitude, we will complete a visualization drawing, by defining what we envision in our mind and pushing it out onto paper. Some basic sketching techniques will be explained and demonstrated. For expanded thinking, we will brainstorm to generate ideas and visual images.
These techniques can provide you with a foundation in which to build and develop verbal and visual skills to communicate with more clarity and efficiency. The exercises in visual development can also increase mental ability by using both hemispheres of the brain, helping a person accomplish more and reach their full potential.
